1st Annual Shoreline Cleanup
We are proud to announce that the 1st Annual Mississippi River Shoreline Cleanup was a huge success!
Over forty volunteers showed up to Metcalfe Park bright and early in the morning. We grabbed garbage bags and headed both upstream and downstream to see what we could find.
The results were impressive. In three hours we pulled 700 kilograms of junk out of the river.
That 700 kilos was made up of:
– 210 kilos of general garbage (wrappers, cans, bottles, etc.)
– 210 kilos of miscellaneous metal waste
– 280 kilos of discarded metal from the construction and maintenance of the weir at the top of the upper falls
Thanks to everyone who came out, and we’ll see you next year.
